The Town of Chapel Hill has named Alicia Arnold as its next Director of Housing & Community Development. Arnold’s first day on the job will be June 8.

Arnold has spent the last 12 years working in the Wake County government, where she currently serves as the county’s Deputy Director of Housing Affordability and Community Revitalization. Chapel Hill Town Manager Ted Voorhees said Arnold’s work in Wake County “shows her ability to deliver real results for residents and sustain partnerships that make communities stronger.”

“We are thrilled to welcome her to Chapel Hill,” Voorhees said, “and look forward to the positive impact she will make on our mission of learning, serving, and working together to build a community where everyone lives.”

The Town of Chapel Hill’s Housing & Community Development Department manages a number of different responsibilities, including more than $5 million in federal and local funding, the Affordable Housing Plan and Investment Strategy and oversight of the town’s 11 public housing communities.

“I am honored to join the Town of Chapel Hill and excited to work alongside staff, partners, and residents to strengthen housing opportunities and support the well-being of our community,” said Arnold. “I look forward to building on the Town’s commitment to equity, collaboration, and meaningful results for the people we serve.”

Arnold holds two degrees from East Carolina University, including a Master of Public Administration. She will replace Loryn Clark, who is currently serving as the Housing & Community Development Department’s interim director. Clark replaced Sarah Viñas, who left the Town of Chapel Hill in December of 2025.
