UNC head coach Hubert Davis gave an update on injured star Seth Trimble during Davis’ weekly radio show Monday night.
“He’s progressing nicely,” Davis told the Tar Heel Sports Network’s Jones Angell. “The last couple days, he’s been [playing] five-on-five and been practicing with us. So he’s progressing, and I like the way that he is.”
Davis’ most recent update marked a change from his comments on Trimble following UNC’s game against USC Upstate last Saturday. At that time, Davis said Trimble was going through individual workouts but not yet practicing with the team.
Trimble last suited up for UNC on Nov. 7, when the Tar Heels defeated No. 19 Kansas 87-74 at the Smith Center. Two days later, the program announced Trimble would be out indefinitely after suffering a broken left forearm in a weight room accident. He has missed Carolina’s last eight games, during which time the Tar Heels have gone 7-1. Trimble had appeared with his forearm either in a cast or a brace while sitting on the UNC bench since the injury, but was not wearing any protective gear during the USC Upstate game.
In two appearances this season, Trimble averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He started both contests. In Trimble’s absence, Luka Bogavac has inherited the starting role. Bogavac is averaging 12.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
UNC will return to action Tuesday night when it hosts East Tennessee State at the Smith Center at 8 p.m. The Tar Heels are 9-1 – their best start through 10 games since the 2017-18 season – and are ranked No. 12 in the latest AP Poll.
“Hubert Davis Live” airs Monday nights at 7 p.m. on 97.9 The Hill WCHL. There will not be shows on Dec. 22 or Dec. 29.
