The Diamond Heels are in the game.
UNC is one of 11 college baseball programs who will be added to the video game “MLB The Show 26” as part of its “Road to the Show” mode.
“MLB The Show” debuted playable college programs as part of its 2025 edition, with eight college teams, including Vanderbilt, Texas and LSU. Only two of the 11 new college programs for the 2026 game have been revealed: UNC and Oregon State – who defeated Carolina in back-to-back College World Series finals in 2006 and 2007, then eliminated the Diamond Heels from Omaha again in 2018.
In “Road to the Show,” users can create their own player and experience the journey from high school all the way to Major League Baseball. The journey includes a stop in college baseball and a chance to play in Omaha at the College World Series. UNC has made 12 all-time trips to Omaha.
“MLB The Show” is the most popular Major League Baseball video game, having first been released in 2006. It is currently available to play on all major consoles, including PlayStation and Xbox. No release date has been confirmed for the 2026 game, though new editions are usually released in March.
The UNC baseball program made headlines for a different reason earlier in December, announcing the installation of a state-of-the-art Trajekt Pitching Machine at its facility. Carolina is the first college program to install the machine, which is currently used by 26 Major League teams.
“Thankful for the support that allows us to continue to invest in our players at the highest level!” head coach Scott Forbes said on social media. “Trajekt will be a game changer for our program and provide our players with an unparalleled player development opportunity.”
UNC will open its 2026 season on February 13 when it hosts Indiana for the first game of a three-game series at Boshamer Stadium.
