The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking which took place at The Siena Hotel early Saturday morning.
Police say they responded to initial reports of the carjacking at around 2:25 a.m. Investigators reportedly determined three men stole a vehicle outside the hotel, located at 1505 East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, from two people at gunpoint. The stolen vehicle was located and recovered in Durham about two hours later.
No injuries were reported from the carjacking, and Siena Hotel leadership told Chapelboro the victims are not hotel guests.
Police say they are working to identify the suspects and are looking into any possible connections with an armed robbery which took place in the area of Old Chapel Hill Road late Thursday night. That incident also involved three unidentified men.
Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call 911 or to contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers at 919-942-7515 or visit their website. Information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
