UNC star freshman Chloe Humphrey has been named the 2025 winner of the Honda Sport Award for lacrosse. The Honda Sport Award honors the national players of the year in all collegiate women’s sports.
Humphrey is the third Tar Heel to win the award for lacrosse, joining Kara Cannizzaro in 2013 and Jamie Ortega in 2022.
Humphrey, who missed her entire true freshman season in 2024 with a foot injury, set a new national freshman record and UNC program record with 90 goals in 2025. She was named first team All-ACC, ACC Tournament MVP, first team All-America, the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament and took home UNC’s first ever Tewaaraton Award. Humphrey scored hat tricks in 18 of Carolina’s 22 games this past season and scored five or more goals nine times.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Chloe and all she’s accomplished this season,” said UNC head coach Jenny Levy. “She’s an incredibly hard worker, an excellent teammate, and a real competitor. Chloe plays the game with so much joy and you can see that her energy is infectious. She was pivotal to our team’s success this season and is being deservedly recognized for those contributions with one of, if not, the most prestigious awards in college sports.”
Humphrey’s win means she will be a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year award and the 2025 Honda Cup, which will be presented at the Collegiate Women Sports Awards the night of June 30.
