Every weeknight from 6-7 p.m., 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck hosts “Live & Local,” an hour of music from local artists and bands in the Triangle. Aaron scours the area to find the very best music – from well-known, long-established bands to the new and emerging artists who are still flying under the radar.
But Aaron’s only one guy. What are other music fans listening to?
This week on Live & Local, Aaron welcomed three journalists who specialize in Triangle-area music: WUNC music reporter Brian Burns, Indy Week culture editor Sarah Edwards, and Super Empty founder/editor Ryan Cocca. Each one (including Aaron) was given a simple task: bring in one worthy new song from a local artist, and play it for the other three.
The result was four tracks across a wide range of genres, from pop to country to hip-hop to the experimental. Edwards recommended “This Kind of Rain,” the latest single from Blue Cactus; Aaron chose to spotlight an emerging Hillsborough singer/songwriter named Katie Rae; Cocca brought the latest single from Raleigh hip-hop collective Kooley High – whose alum Rapsody just won a Grammy – and Burns played an innovative track by Raleigh’s Faun Tempol, which is already getting airplay overseas.
