UNC has announced the members of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Class of 2028, who will enter school in the fall of 2024. The class includes 73 scholars from 24 counties in North Carolina, and five scholars are from either Orange or Chatham Counties.
From Chatham, Elphie Spillman of Chatham Charter School in Siler City received the scholarship. In Orange County, three students from Chapel Hill High School earned scholarships: Elise Chang, Tanvi Gaur and Emmaline Phillips. Riley White of Hillsborough’s Orange High School was named a scholar as well.
“These emerging young leaders have not only exhibited tremendous academic achievement, but the capacity to shape their communities,” said Morehead-Cain president Chris Bradford. “Morehead-Cain is invested in empowering this new cohort of scholars as they step boldly into the next phase of their journey. We look forward to the impact they will make at Carolina and beyond.”
The most prestigious scholarship awarded by UNC, the Morehead-Cain fully funds the recipient’s undergraduate career, in addition to opening opportunities for internships around the world. It was first founded in 1945. For a full look at the Class of 2024, click here.
