Durham’s Brogden Middle School is feeling grrrrrreat after receiving a $10,000 donation from UNC men’s basketball star Armando Bacot and Frosted Flakes through the “Mission Tiger” NIL fundraider.
Bacot visited with fans at a Food Lion in Pittsboro on Tuesday afternoon to kick off the fundraiser and announce the donation to Brogden, which will fund sports equipment requested by teachers and coaches. The goal of Mission Tiger is to raise money for middle school sports, allowing for more teams and more spots for potential players.
“It means a lot to give back to my community with Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, especially the young athletes in Chapel Hill,” Bacot said in a statement. “I know there can be a lot of pressure on kids to make the varsity team or win the championship game, so I hope Tony the Tiger and I can help remind kids that the most important thing is to just go out there, do your best and have fun!”
During the length of the fundraiser, Frosted Flakes is tripling donations up to $20,000 made toward eligible middle school sports projects in North Carolina through DonorsChoose.
The event, during which Bacot played games and took photos, was the star Tar Heel’s first public appearance since the end of the 2022-23 basketball season in March.
