Bring the kids out to Southern Village this Thursday to celebrate the end of the school year. Hosted by Southern Village Orthodontics, the celebration will include games, prizes, raffles, food, live music, and more. Click here for more information.

Start the weekend fun early with some live music this Thursday. A-F Records is having a new artist showcase at Local 506 starting at 7. The show will feature four punk bands, including Wolves x4 from Winston Salem, New Junk City from Atlanta, American Television from DC, and Distortions from Chapel Hill. Friday, June 9 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Come out to Piedmont Wildlife Center and meet and learn about the many animals that call the PWC home. Starting at 11, you’ll get the chance to meet 3-4 species native to North Carolina. The audience will get the chance to ask any questions about the animals and even the chance to touch a few of them. The presentation will start in the outdoor amphitheater and then go on a short raptor tour. For more information, click here.

Friday, June 9 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts will be collaborating with North Carolina Haiku society for a merging of mediums on display. On display will be fine arts and crafts in a number of mediums, including acrylic, oil, collages, and more. As well as the art, a poet was tasked with creating an interpretive poem inspired by the art. The mix of mediums will be on display through July 2nd with the opening ceremony this Friday. The 9th annual Freight Train Blues concert series starts this weekend in Carrboro. The concert series celebrates the life and legacy of blueswoman Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten. Celebrate flower season with the Carrboro Farmers Market this weekend. To celebrate the beauty of flower season, the Market will be offering make-take art, including live screen-printing of a special in bloom poster and a photo booth. The celebration will also include a raffle, sample of flowers, special prizes, live music and more. The event is free so don’t miss celebrating the beauty of flowers with the Carrboro Farmers Market. In recognition of Juneteenth, the Chatham Community Library will be holding “The Sounds of Freedom, from Slavery to Civil Rights” with gospel performer and Duke Center professor, Mary D. Williams. Check out Switchyard Theatre Company’s performance of Or by Liz Duffy Adams. The play follows the story of Aphra Behn, a former spy turned playwright on a time crunch to finish her play all while she balances a double agent, a king, and an eccentric actress. “Or” will have several showings through the month of June so be sure to catch at least one. Saturday, June 10 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Bring the kids to Kidzu Children’s Museum this Saturday for the Playwell Workshop. The “offline” video game workshop encourages children to put their hands on building skills to the test all while bringing their favorite characters into the real world. Kids will use Legos and build a world with characters such as Mario, Sonic, Robotnik, and more. For more information, click here.

The Pride month festivities continue this weekend at the Carrboro Town Commons with a Latinx pride celebration. The Orgullo Pride Celebration will celebrate and share the diverse cultures, identities, and experiences of the local Latinx community. Drop a line at West Point Mill this weekend. They’ll have cane fishing poles for you to check out for the afternoon while you step away from the hustle bustle at West Point on the Eno. Enjoy nature and some old-fashioned fishing this weekend.
