UNC men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi has agreed to a three-year contract extension which will keep him in Chapel Hill through the end of the 2026 season.

“It’s an honor to coach this program,” said Breschi, a 1990 UNC graduate. “Our program goals have always been to recruit the best student-athletes in the country, compete for championships and be dedicated members of the Carolina Family, and I’m excited about the future of Tar Heel Men’s Lacrosse.”

Breschi has been head coach of the Tar Heels for 15 seasons, during which time Carolina has qualified for 10 NCAA Tournaments and won the 2016 national championship, the fifth in program history. Breschi has been named ACC Coach of the Year three times and National Coach of the Year once. His 152 wins are the most in program history.

“Coach Breschi is proud to teach Tar Heel student-athletes not only how to succeed in competition, but also how to give back to the community while balancing academic responsibilities,” said UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham. “We are happy he will continue to lead our Carolina Men’s Lacrosse Program.

Under Breschi’s leadership, Carolina has produced multiple All-ACC Academic Team members in each of his 15 seasons, with former Tar Heel Chris Gray being named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021. The men’s lacrosse program has earned four perfect Academic Progress Rate scores of 1,000 during Breschi’s tenure.

Breschi is the third UNC head coach to receive a contract extension this spring, along with women’s basketball head coach Courtney Banghart and baseball head coach Scott Forbes.
