The UNC men’s soccer team dropped its second straight home match Friday night, falling to No. 10 Pittsburgh 1-0.

The Panthers controlled the match offensively, outshooting Carolina 14-6 with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. UNC goalkeeper Andrew Cordes kept the Tar Heels in it, making four saves, and the match went to halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Unfortunately for the home side, they couldn’t hold off Pitt for the full 90 minutes. The Panthers’ Mateo Maillefaud scored the night’s only goal in the 64th minute, giving Pitt a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Carolina only managed two more shots in the remaining 26 minutes.

The Tar Heels have lost two straight matches after a 2-0 start, both of which have come at Dorrance Field. One more home match awaits against East Tennessee State on September 13, after which the team takes a difficult road trip to No. 7 Duke in Durham. Carolina lost to Duke 3-0 in Chapel Hill last season.
