A trio of members of the UNC baseball team received All-ACC recognition for their outstanding play in 2022. Outfielders Angel Zarate and Vance Honeycutt were each named to the third team, while shortstop Danny Serretti was named to the second team.

Zarate posted career-high numbers in both hits (79) and doubles (16) for Carolina this year. Both of those numbers also ranked in the top 10 of the ACC. Zarate’s .346 batting average was also a career-best, and ranked second on the team. He was one of only four position players on the team to start all 53 games for the Tar Heels this season.

Honeycutt is also included in that list. The freshman phenom from Salisbury, N.C. burst onto the scene by slugging 17 home runs and stealing 28 bases for Carolina this season. He is the only player in the ACC with more than 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Honeycutt was also named to the All-Freshman team, and joins Aaron Sabato and Gianluca Dalatri as the only Tar Heels to ever be named to the All-Freshman and All-ACC teams in the same season.

Serretti put together the best season of his career in 2022. The junior shortstop led the team with a .369 batting average and .448 on-base percentage. His average was the highest for a Carolina player since Dustin Ackley batted .417 in 2009. Serretti also tied Zarate for the team lead with 79 hits, and was one of only two Tar Heels to hit multiple triples this season (Honeycutt being the other).

The Diamond Heels will open ACC Tournament play tonight against Clemson at 7 p.m.
