The UNC football program has made another splash in the transfer portal. The team announced Monday that linebacker Noah Taylor from the University of Virginia would be transferring to Carolina for his last year of eligibility. Taylor also announced his decision on Twitter.
In four years with the Cavaliers, Taylor appeared in 44 games and started 31. He recorded at least two tackles in each of Virginia’s games in 2021, including a career-high 12 against the Tar Heels in September. Taylor has also recorded 13.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and three interceptions in his career, with an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown in 2020 being an all-time highlight.
Taylor’s commitment comes as the Tar Heels stand to lose three contributors in the linebacker corps after the season. Seniors Jeremiah Gemmel and Tomon Fox will be playing in their last game as Tar Heels in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Thursday, and junior Eugene Asante announced his decision to leave Carolina via the transfer portal earlier in December.
Taylor is the second player to join the Tar Heels via the transfer portal since the conclusion of the regular season, with both coming from a fellow ACC Coastal Division school. Offensive lineman Corey Gaynor, who began his career with Miami, will also join Carolina for his last year of eligibility in 2022.
