One state road in Orange County will temporarily close as construction continues on the Town of Hillsborough’s reservoir expansion.
Carr Store Road is expected to be closed from October 28 to May 21. Traffic will be directed around the area via Mill Creek, Efland-Cedar Grove and Governor Scott roads.
The closing of Carr Store Road will coincide with the reopening of Mill Creek Road.
Mill Creek Road was previously closed for construction related to reservoir expansion and is set to reopen by October 28. The Town of Hillsborough said work that started in August was behind schedule due to rain and an unexpected about of rock, which slowed excavation and installation of new drainage pipes.
Designated detours for each closure are 6.6 miles, with access to existing driveways within the construction area maintained.
Drivers are urged to use caution and be mindful of crews due to the detours in the area.
The Town of Hillsborough is funding the road improvements, which were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The improvements — which cost $2.44 million — include vertical alignment changes, a replacement bridge on Carr Store Road over the reservoir, drainage improvements, and raiding the roads to improve motorist safety and to allow a higher level of water in the reservoir.
More information regarding road improvements can be found on the Town of Hillsborough’s website.
