With the first round of the main draw getting underway on Wednesday in Tulsa, UNC senior Josh Peck was the only one of three Tar Heels competing to advance to the second round of the ITA All-American Championships.
Peck defeated Jonathan Sheehy of Abilene Christian in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to punch his ticket to the next round.
UNC was also represented by Brian Cernoch–who lost 6-3, 7-5 to South Alabama’s Loic Cloes–and Simon Soendergaard. UCLA’s Keegan Smith was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Soendergaard.
Peck will take on Baylor’s Matias Soto in Thursday’s second round action.
