The football facilities upgrades has been a priority of Mack Brown’s ever since the Hall of Fame head coach was hired to return to Chapel Hill. The university wasted no time following spring practice undergoing construction at Kenan Stadium to install new the new locker and weight rooms.
UNC’s commitment to locker room upgrades falls in line with what other college programs are doing across the country. LSU recently unveiled the results of their multi-million dollar facilities upgrades and top-tier teams like Alabama and Clemson have made some impressive improvements that other teams are starting to emulate.

“We met with all the players,” Brown told Inside Carolina earlier this year. “We asked them, showed them lockers from across the country and said ‘you guys tell us what you want in it’ and that’s what they came up with.”
The new locker room includes padded seats, custom player nameplates, electrical outlets with charging ports and a cooling system for football pads.

The football locker and weight room upgrades are another in a long line of facilities improvements that UNC is currently undergoing.
Artificial turf was recently installed at Kenan Stadium, replacing the natural grass that has graced the stadium for years. New seats have also been added and a new indoor practice facility was opened earlier this year.
UNC has also opened a new soccer and lacrosse stadium, a new field hockey stadium and a new track and field complex in recent years. In the Dean Smith Center, new video boards have been added in recent years and the court was named in honor of Roy Williams.
