****UPDATE: Duke Energy and Piedmont Electric are reporting as of 7 a.m. Monday that fewer than 100 customers remained without power in Orange County.****
More than 3,000 Orange County customers have been without power since Thursday, and the utility companies are saying it could be late Tuesday before power is fully restored.
Heavy winds and rain from the remnants of Hurricane Michael swept through central North Carolina on Thursday, less than a month after the area saw heavy rain from Hurricane Florence.
At its peak, roughly 25,000 customers were without power in Orange County. But crews have been able to restore the vast majority of those outages. Still, as of 10 a.m. Sunday, Duke Energy is reporting nearly 1,500 customers without power in Orange County and Piedmont Electric is reporting nearly 2,000 customers are still without power.
Piedmont Electric posted a message on its website saying that “several circuits” remain out in the area of Damascus Church, Jones Ferry Road and Highway 54.
Crews are on the scene, according to the utility.
“We are hoping to have more than half of the remaining members on by tonight and everyone on by the end of the day on Monday.”
Duke Energy is estimating power will be restored to some locations throughout Sunday and Monday. But the utility said all power would be restored “no later than 11:45 p.m.” Tuesday.
