Some local schools are closing ahead of a massive storm coming through central North Carolina later this week.
School systems closed for Thursday, October 11, ahead of the impact from Hurricane Michael include: Alamance – Burlington Schools, Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools, Chatham County Schools, Durham Public School, Orange County Schools and St. Thomas More Catholic School.
All Durham Tech campuses will be closed Thursday, October 11.
The massive storm made landfall on Wednesday afternoon in the panhandle of Florida as a Category 4 hurricane.
Central North Carolina is expected to receive several inches of rain from late Wednesday into early Friday morning.
