Chapel Hill Police have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of selling counterfeit tickets to Thursday night’s UNC – Duke basketball game in Chapel Hill.
Police said Wednesday night that Brandon Micheal Goodall, of Chicago, was arrested as a result of a joint investigation with police from Carrboro and Chapel Hill.
Police investigators contacted a seller after seeing a suspicious post on Craigslist. Authorities arranged a meeting and determined that tickets in Goodall’s possession were counterfeit.
Police said in a release Wednesday night that there have been “numerous media stories regarding the danger of buying counterfeit tickets” to games as high-profile as UNC – Duke. Law enforcement officials encourage anyone looking for tickets to Thursday’s game to only purchase tickets from a trusted source.
Goodall has been charged with one felony count of attempt to obtain property by false pretense and one misdemeanor count of criminal use of counterfeit trademark. He is being held in the Orange County Jail under an $8,500 secured bond.
Anyone who purchased tickets from Goodall is asked to call local police. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact Chapel Hill Police at (919) 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
