Another September 7 has come without resolution in the investigation into the murder of 19-year-old UNC student Faith Hedgepeth in Chapel Hill six years ago.

“Our department hasn’t once stopped working on this case, and we won’t until it’s solved,” Chapel Hill Police chief and executive director for Community Safety Chris Blue said in a release. “We’re very confident in this case; it’s not a question of if it will be solved, it’s when.”

Hedgepeth’s case has drawn national attention over the years, both in the immediate aftermath of her murder and as the investigation has continued over the years.

“Investigators do work the case each and every day,” Chapel Hill Police assistant chief Celisa Lehew said in an interview with WCHL on last year’s anniversary. “We are confident that somebody out there has some information that will lead us to an arrest and/or assist with the case.”

Police officials said in Friday’s update that the department is continuing to utilize new technologies, including DNA testing and genealogical testing, “to piece together evidence.”

Authorities continue to say that investigators “have excellent evidence in this case.” But officials continue asking anyone with information to come forward.

Reward money from the various sources in the investigation, according to police, totals more than $40,000.

Anyone with information regarding the ongoing investigation into the murder of Hedgepeth can contact authorities through several options. Investigators specifically working the Hedgepeth case can be reached directly at (919) 614-6363. Anyone with information but requesting to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.

“Our thoughts continue to go out to Faith’s family and friends,” authorities said Friday. “We remain committed to this case and are confident that we will identify the killer and bring that person to justice.”
