The Carrboro Board of Alderman will hold multiple public hearings Tuesday night, including the request on rezoning the Lloyd Farm property.

The proposal was first brought forward in 2011. Since then, there has been concern on different aspects of the project.

In The Board of Alderman’s meeting on May 17, town planning administrator Tina Moon discussed the changes in the proposal and proposed holding the public hearing scheduled for Tuesday night.

“The biggest changes have to do with the residential use, changing that to more of a senior community which will have some effect on traffic impact,” Moon said. “Looking at a different approach in the most visible kind of gateway to our community in terms of open space and tree protection, an offer to dedicate a certain section of property to the town for our use or for public use, incorporating some additional vehicular access tools, and finally some other minor site design changes.”

At that May meeting, Alderman Damon Seils said the new proposal came after more than a year of mediation.

“If we could get to this shared goal of coming up with at least something that was ready to go to public hearing, then the mediation process had succeed,” said Seils. “It wasn’t endorsing a particular plan; it wasn’t endorsing a particular outcome.”

The Lloyd Farm property is one of the last large undeveloped areas in Carrboro, proposed to be filled with residential, retail and business buildings that could bring the town an estimated $600,000 in annual property taxes.

This hearing is one of many that will be discussed at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled for 7:30 in Carrboro Town Hall.
