The Carrboro Board of Aldermen heard an update on the Lloyd Farm development Tuesday, after the project was in mediation for the last year and a half.
The mediation attempted to bridge differences between what kind of development the town was interested in and the project the developers had in mind.
The proposed Lloyd Farm development plans include shops, offices and housing. The residential space will focus on senior living with one and two bedroom units and free-standing cottages.
Plans also specify a Harris Teeter grocery store and outdoor seating and gathering areas.
Alderman Damon Seils, said the mediation process, had accomplished what it set out to do.
“If we could get to this shared goal of coming up with at least something that was ready to go to public hearing than the mediation process had succeed,” said Seils. “It wasn’t endorsing a particular plan, it wasn’t endorsing a particular outcome.”
The almost 40 acre property is located on NC 54 and Old Fayetteville Road. It is one of the largest spots of undeveloped land left in Carrboro.
For the project to continue much of the property needs to be rezoned to include multi-family housing. The zoning ordinance must also be amended to increase the building height limit and allow for flexibility in street design standards.
A public hearing on the Lloyd Farm development will be held June 26.
