The North Carolina men’s and women’s lacrosse teams continued the strong start to the teams’ respective seasons with a pair of top-25 wins over the weekend.
The No. 17 men’s team defeated 19th-ranked Richmond 15-6 on Saturday night at Fetzer Field.
Chris Cloutier set a career high with seven points in the Tar Heel victory and Brian Balkman recorded 12 saves for a new career high.
Richmond scored the first goal of the game before a five-goal run from UNC put the Tar Heels ahead for good.
Richmond was making its second trip to the Triangle; the Spiders defeated Duke 12-10 in early March.
UNC has a big matchup against No. 7 Maryland on Saturday in College Park. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
The No. 4 Tar Heel women’s team defeated No. 10 Northwestern in overtime on Sunday afternoon to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Aly Messinger scored just 14 seconds into the extra period for the UNC victory.
Messinger scored two goals and had two assists to lead the offensive output for the Tar Heels. Marie McCool scored twice and six Carolina players scored one goal.
UNC will travel to Boston College for its next game on Saturday.
