History was made Tuesday afternoon, as UNC sophomore William Blumberg became the first Tar Heel men’s tennis player to ever rise to the No. 1 ranking in the ITA Men’s Singles Rankings.
The runner-up in last year’s NCAA Singles Tournament as a freshman, Blumberg has quickly established himself as the most dominant force on head coach Sam Paul’s team.
He went 6-0 this past weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle–posting 3-0 records in both singles and doubles competition.
So far this season, Blumberg has an 11-2 singles record in all competitions. This includes a title at the ITA All-American Championship, an event in which he became the first Tar Heel to ever win.
As a team, UNC is 8-2 and ranked No. 6 overall.
