A longtime assistant coach under Roy Williams–both at Kansas and UNC–C.B. McGrath is expected to leave his position on the Tar Heel bench in order to take the head coach job at UNC-Wilmington.

The 41-year-old played guard for four years under Williams at Kansas, before spending another four years there as an assistant.

He has been at UNC each year–14 in total–since Williams took the head coaching job in Chapel Hill.

McGrath has also been the head coach of the UNC junior varsity team in recent years, as well.

UNC-Wilmington provides McGrath with a team coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in each of the last two seasons–compiling a 54-14 record during that span for previous head coach Kevin Keatts, who left to take the same job at NC State.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman was the first to report the news, adding that the deal is still pending board approval.
