CHAPEL HILL–The No. 17 North Carolina women’s basketball team easily dispatched Pittsburgh 86-50 Thursday evening at Carmichael Arena to improve to 19-6 overall and 7-4 in the ACC.

With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 10-15 on the season and 2-9 in conference play.

Diamond DeShields finished up with 19 points while Allisha Gray led the team with 21 points.

Carolina sped away from Pittsburgh early, having its way offensively against the Panthers on the way to a 19-4 lead. But Pittsburgh helped UNC’s cause by missing 13 shots in a row in the first half.

“I think we have a championship mentaility. We have a championship mentality, and we’re trying to build off that Duke game last Monday,” Associate Head Coach Andrew Calder says.

Next up for the Tar Heels is a road game at N.C. State Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast by WCHL and televised nationally on ESPN2.
