The Cave is closing after operating for 50 years in Chapel Hill.

Ownership announced on Thursday afternoon that the bar’s last day of business would be April 30.

The hardest part of closing, the post on social media said, was feeling “that we are failing everyone who loves the place as much as we do.”

Ownership has been looking to sell the business over the last six months, but “it became clear that this would not likely be an option and that it is unlikely that the building owner would lease the space to another group wanting to continue as The Cave.”

Bar owners are asking that any bands who would like to play one last show at the iconic location to contact them and “we will do all we can to add you to a show or to create one for you.”
