The Confederate monument on the UNC – Chapel Hill campus known as Silent Sam has been a flashpoint of protests for decades. The calls for its removal have intensified after a white supermacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where a counterprotester was killed.
UNC history professors Fitzhugh Brundage and William Sturkey, along with chancellor emeritus James Moeser spoke with WCHL about the history of the statue and its impact on the university community.
