Tell me Kansas doesn’t wish Roy Williams was still the coach.

Those of you who haven’t seen what happened at the end of the Kansas State-Kansas game last night, go see the videotape. It was a brawl from yesteryear, something you thought we would never see in a college basketball game again.

We’ve asked similar questions about other incidents at other schools before, so I’ll ask again: would a Carolina player ever stand over an opponent he just fouled and taunt him? Would a Carolina player ever pick up a chair and threaten to hit someone with it? Would a Carolina player ever throw random punches at anyone in his path?

The answer is simple — never. And if it did happen, just once, that would be the last time he ever put on a UNC uniform.

Go look at the videotape and tell me if that would have happened at Kansas while Roy Williams was coaching there. Forget the Adidas scandal that Kansas still has to answer to. Forget the other accusations of cheating that have dogged the KU program in the 16-plus seasons Bill Self has coached there.

Go look at the video on ESPN.com and the dozens of other websites showing it this morning and for the rest of this week. It is the scariest thing you will ever see in a sports event, rivaling the Pacers-Pistons brawl that erupted in 2004 and transformed the NBA. Kansas must pay a mighty big price for it.

Players don’t do what several Jayhawks did at the end of their blowout victory over rival K -State. It didn’t come close to happening when Williams was there, and it will never happen while he’s here.

See if it doesn’t put this season into clear perspective for you. Kansas is ranked No. 3 in the country; Carolina might be ranked 103 after all the games are played. Which program today would you be prouder to cheer for?

The brawl started on the baseline, trampling the name of James Naismith on the floor. If there is such a thing, Dr. Naismith is rolling over in his grave — in pain.

Go look at the videotape. Now.
