97.9 The Hill, the flagship station for Tar Heel sports, is excited to announce the premiere of a new, exclusive football show airing this season. “The Carolina Football Hour on Franklin” will air its debut episode this coming Wednesday, August 27, at 6 p.m. The show will air weekly on Monday nights at 6 p.m. for the remainder of the season, though there will not be a broadcast Monday, September 1 due to UNC’s game against TCU that night.
“We’re always looking for ways to connect more deeply with our listeners and Carolina fans,” said 97.9 The Hill General Manager Aubrey Williams. “This new show brings the energy of this exciting season straight to the airwaves, offering fans a place to celebrate wins, dissect losses, and be part of the conversation all season long.”
Hosting the show will be 97.9 The Hill News Director Brighton McConnell. Throughout the season, McConnell will be regularly joined by sports reporter Michael Koh, columnist Art Chansky and rotating weekly guests to provide analysis and insight into UNC’s results and upcoming games. The hour-long broadcast will feature reactions to the past week’s contest, predictions for the coming week, input from listeners over a phone line, and reflections on the first season of head coach Bill Belichick’s tenure.
“As the Tar Heels look to up their game on the football field, I’m thrilled to help expand 97.9 The Hill’s coverage this season,” McConnell said. “Any good college football town has a Monday call-in show, and we’re excited to provide a new way for passionate Carolina fans to share their thoughts while bringing you the perspectives of experts in covering this team.”
The show’s weekly “What In Tar-Nation?!” segment will play voicemails received over the weekend and on Monday by the Tar Heel faithful reacting to UNC football’s performance. Fans are encouraged to leave their messages by calling or texting 919-240-6000, with the best ones getting played and discussed on the air.
“The Carolina Football Hour on Franklin” adds to an exciting lineup of UNC football programming on 97.9 The Hill’s airwaves. Listeners can follow along with general manager Michael Lombardi’s exclusive interviews with Aaron Keck every Monday morning, the weekly show “Carolina Football Live” every Monday night at 7 p.m. (airing immediately after “The Carolina Football Hour on Franklin”), “Inside Carolina Live” three hours before every game, and live broadcasts of each and every UNC football game through the Tar Heel Sports Network.
