As the flagship station for Tar Heel sports, 97.9 The Hill will once again provide comprehensive coverage of UNC football during the 2026 season. Check out the complete weekly radio programming schedule below:
Tuesdays and Thursdays
Tune in to 97.9 The Hill for installments of the 100 Years of Kenan series, which broadcasts the community’s favorite stories and memories in honor of the 100th anniversary of Kenan Stadium this fall. The feature will air during our hourly sports reports of “This Morning with Aaron Keck” from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and “News On The Hill” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday Nights
UNC’s weekly coach’s show with Learfield, Carolina Football Live, will move from primarily being broadcast on Mondays to Thursdays, as announced by the athletic department. The first show of the season will be on Monday, August 24, and the only other Monday show will be following the Tar Heels’ bye week (September 28). All other editions of Carolina Football Live featuring head coach Bill Belichick, UNC football players, assistant coaches and other head coaches of Tar Heel programs will be on Thursdays at 7 p.m., including on 97.9 The Hill. As is tradition, most of the shows will broadcast live from Top of the Hill restaurant in downtown Chapel Hill.
Saturdays
Every game day, 97.9 The Hill’s coverage begins with The Carolina Football Hour on Franklin, beginning three hours prior to kickoff. The program is moving from its Monday night time slot to become this season’s locally-produced pre-game show. Join news director Brighton McConnell and sports reporter Michael Koh as they break down the day’s matchup, discuss the state of the program and chat with experts covering the Tar Heels — all while broadcasting from the Franklin Street studio.
Two hours prior to kickoff, stay tuned in for Learfield’s Countdown to Kickoff. One hour prior to kickoff, coverage shifts to Jones Angell and the Tar Heel Sports Network, which will carry listeners through the entire game broadcast and for approximately 90 minutes afterward.
Daily
Additionally, radio listeners tune in daily to “This Morning with Aaron Keck” and “News On The Hill” for sports coverage of UNC football and all other Carolina programs.
