Jaylen McGill scored a 24-yard touchdown and Kenton Dopson intercepted a Blue Devil pass in the final seconds to help UNC fight off a Duke comeback and win 24-20 in Durham.

Carolina led 17-0 in the first half, but a Jordan Shipp fumble was returned for a touchdown to give Duke life. Two field goals cut the deficit to 17-13 before star running back Nate Sheppard scored on a short pass in the fourth quarter to give Duke its first lead.

On UNC’s next drive, the Tar Heels faced a fourth down in their own territory and elected to go for it. Billy Edwards converted on a pass to a sliding Jelani Thurman over the middle, and the drive would end with McGill scampering into the end zone.

Saturday’s win improves UNC to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in ACC play, and also snaps a two-game losing streak to the Blue Devils. The Tar Heels will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 24 when they host Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. in Kenan Stadium.
