I’ve often said when I wake up in the morning, I know that all is right with the world if I hear Ron Stutts on the radio.

I first came to work at WCHL in 2003, as the station celebrated its 50th birthday. Now it’s 2020, and in the 17 years since a lot has changed for us and the community we serve. With a history spanning almost 70 years of broadcasting and news coverage, 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com are proud to be your neighbors.

Often, people are also surprised to learn that we are not a non-profit – that we’re not financially supported by the state or the UNC system. We are an independently-owned and locally operated business. We have 17 employees who live in this community – people who pay bills, frequent restaurants, have families and who choose every day to be an active part of the fabric of our community.

This is the tradition of our company that our staff puts into practice: we work hard to educate, inform and entertain our community. Local news doesn’t stop – and neither do we. From reading news briefs live on air each morning to keeping breaking stories up-to-date late at night, 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com is there.

Our business is entirely advertiser supported. That means that every light bill, rent payment and salary is made possible by our wonderful, local business partners – many of whom are devastated right now. Our hearts hurt for our neighbors and friends who are experiencing hardship and it is our promise to continue our work as the voice of this community and a place for our listeners and readers to seek information.

Local journalism is alive and well here at WCHL and Chapelboro.com, and if you would like to support our work, our people and our community, we welcome donations.

Thank you for being the best community in the world.
