Registration for the 2019 Healthiest You Challenge, presented by UNC Health Care, is open today.

During the challenge, 64 participants will get an eight week membership to use the UNC Wellness Center facilities and get the opportunity to learn more about good exercise and eating habits, planning meals, reading labels, intuitive eating, and why sleep is so important to our health.

“We’ve been able to host this community based program, our residents, which gives them the opportunity to work towards their healthiest selves,” said Jamy McGee, the health education director for UNC Health Care and UNC Wellness Centers. “We span the program over an eight week period and during that time we enable our challengers to participate in group exercise classes and take advantage of our facilities.”

Over the course of the challenge, participants accumulate points individually and as a team for meeting goals throughout the 8 weeks. Overall health goals include reducing weight and circumference, as well as decreasing blood pressure.

At the end of the challenge, the male and female participants with the most points will each win a free one-year membership to the UNC Wellness centers and $979.

The female and male runners-up will both receive a 6-month membership to the UNC Wellness Centers, and every challenger on the winning team will get a 3-month membership.

“We’re trying to provide our challenges the opportunity to become not just healthier in body but also healthier in mind,” McGee said, “and when you come to that finale, which will be in May, we find that a lot of folks are transformed in a way that’s bigger than themselves and much more than they even anticipated when we kick off in February.”
