Dr. Abbie DeVries is a 2002 graduate of the UNC School of Medicine who did her residency at Brown University. Since 2009, she has been in a leadership role with Piedmont Health Services, a large, multi-site Federally-qualified community health center organization based in Chapel Hill. She began at a local site, moved up to site director and is currently medical director for all of PHS.



She leads continuous clinical quality improvement and external accreditation efforts, develop new sites and programs, develops and supervises peer clinicians and creates infrastructure for value-based care. She enjoys working outside of PHS with community and university partners on inter-agency programming and clinical research.



Dr. DeVries oversees all medical operations and quality monitoring for 10 community health care sites. She has opened four new community health care locations and one new Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) site. She expanded a health-center-based UNC Family Medicine residency at the Prospect Hill Community Health Center and developed the Ryan White-supported infectious disease services at the PHS Burlington health care center. Dr. DeVries lives in Chapel Hill with her husband and children.
