Misty Drake has been Chief Operating Officer of Piedmont Health Services since 2014. After consulting with the medical staff, she made the final decision that it was safe to resume in-person calls at the clinics. Under her guidance, in-person visits were modified and tele-health appointments scheduled to continue seeing patients and treating them in the safest manner possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a child growing up and a young adult experiencing community health care in rural Mississippi and Chicago, Drake loves the atmosphere and unique teamwork CEO Brian Toomey has created at Piedmont Health and relishes the strong partnerships they have formed with hospital affiliates, UNC and Moses Cone in Greensboro, since about 4 percent of their patients come from Alamance County.

Drake implemented and coordinates a program called Patient Center Medical Home that makes sure patients get treatment from primary care providers and their cases are monitored between visits in the exam room, a complete team approach that turns out to deliver more comprehensive care than the total average 45 minutes most patients receive in a typical year from their primary care doctors in traditional health care settings.

During the early stages of coronavirus, COO  Drake made sure Piedmont Health stepped up to help the testing shortage and continues to hold community-based testing events to supplement hospitals and private health care providers that do not have enough testing capacity. Drake’s goal is to make sure anyone who needs a COVID-19 test can get one, whether or not they can pay for it.
