Okay, So What’s Open? Restaurants Serving Takeout and Delivery

Many restaurants in Orange County remain open for takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup. In Chapel Hill, the town has relaxed its parking enforcement to allow people to use curbside pickup options at restaurants downtown.

Music: “From The Fires” by Greta Van Fleet

Craft: Pop-Up Mother’s Day Cards

“From The Fires” by Greta Van Fleet — This is the sophomore double EP by Michigan rock band Greta Van Fleet. The band has recently taken a well-deserved break from the spotlight after their overwhelmingly successful 2019 tour. But while they are currently working on their third, highly anticipated album, all fans can do is listen to their earlier stuff. “From the Fires” is a fantastic EP with their most popular jam to date “Highway Tune,” but it also brags an impressive list of other originals and a stellar cover of “A Change Is Gonna Come” by the incredible Sam Cooke originally. My personal favorite is “Talk On The Street,” so I suggest checking that one out specifically. GVF’s music follows the motif of unity among men and nature, which I believe holds a powerful relevance to our current worldly situation. Makes you think.

3D Pop-Up Mother’s Day Cards — Happy early Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful moms out there! Can’t make it to Hallmark to pick up a special card for momma (stay home if you can!)? Make your own! There are a multitude of ways to make a beautiful card, but a 3D popup card is pretty expert-level creative. Disclaimer, they can range in difficulty depending on how intricate you would like to get, so I’ll let you decide how crazy you wanna go. When in doubt – Google it. At the end of the day, the effort truly is what counts and I’m sure your mom will absolutely love whatever cut up paper-glitter mess you come up with.

Movie: “Anastasia”

Music: Bonobo “Black Sands”

“Anastasia”  I’ll admit, most of my desire to watch this movie came from coming across this song that’s apparently been a thing on the internet for a while. It’s been stuck in my head ever since, and I caught myself thinking about “Anastasia” fairly fondly. There’s a lot to be said for classic-ish animated movies that aren’t from the House of Mouse — “The Road to El Dorado” and everything Don Bluth ever did some to mind, specifically. This belongs in that camp of classics for our time, and Christopher Lloyd’s vocal performance as Rasputin is exactly what you want from Christopher Lloyd as Rasputin. Revisiting this movie as a pleasure, and something I recommend.

“Black Sands” by Bonobo — Bonobo makes music that’s great for doing stuff while he grooves on in the background, but he’s in the relatively rare almost-ambient camp where the music stands up to closer inspection wonderfully. Bonobo is just at home with your undivided attention as he is letting you do your thing while he does his, and that’s exactly the sort of thing I think we could all use a little more of.
