The inaugural Orange County Economic Development Summit took place on October 17, with Orange County commissioners and business leaders joining WCHL’s Aaron Keck to discuss the local economy and how it impacts tourism, the arts and workforce creation. Listen to all eight parts of the inaugural summit on the Chapelboro On Demand page.

On the second segment of the Orange County Economic Development Summit, Aaron Keck was joined by Barry Jacobs (Orange County Commissioner), Mike Ortosky (Agriculture Economic Developer), James Watts (Weaver Street Market Head Merchandiser), Sue Ellsworth (Manager at Piedmond Food & Ag Processing Center) and Ashley Heger (Coordinator at Orange County Food Council) to discuss the nexus of local food systems within Orange County.

“Traditional economic development has been about landing the one big company and agriculture in the past has been just about increasing corn yields and so forth. But those two are starting to come together now.” – Mike Ortosky

“We are focused within three main areas of the food system, which is food access, local food economy and then food waste. I think we have been mostly in a phase of exploring the options, so trying to understand where the gaps in opportunities are.” – Ashley Heger
