The band Megayacht joined Aaron on Live & Local last week, celebrating the release of their debut full-length album “Attacking the Rust.”
Megayacht has been around the Chapel Hill music scene, in some form, for decades. Mitch Bennett, Matt Blanchard, Kevin Jenkins and Frank Peveler first formed the band (then with a different name) back in the 1990s. Eventually life got in the way and the band stopped playing, but they finally started making music again after a 15-year hiatus – hence the album title.
“‘Attacking the Rust’ is a lyric Kevin wrote for a song that’s called Revisions to the System – but it kind of fits us too,” says Bennett. “We had put away music for a while, Kevin literally had put his guitar in the attic for 15 years. So we’ve been ‘attacking the rust’ ever since.”
“Attacking the Rust” officially dropped in August, with 10 songs the band recorded in a studio Jenkins built in Hillsborough.
Purchase the album and listen to it on Bandcamp.
Now, the band is celebrating – and getting the word out – with a series of live shows. Their next show will be part of the Carrboro Music Festival, on Sunday, September 29; Megayacht will take the stage at the Speakeasy at 2:45. Then they’ll be in Raleigh a few days later, playing at Ruby Deluxe on Thursday, October 3.
Megayacht joined Aaron for Live & Local on 97.9 The Hill, to discuss the album, promote their upcoming shows, and play three songs live: “Caviar Eyes,” “These Bones Convey,” and “No Trespassing.” Listen:
