John Bates is Wednesday’s Hometown Hero.

John recently retired after 30+ years as a mail carrier for the Chapel Hill Post Office.  He always delivered with a smile.  He cared about all of his customers and always had time for a kind word.

When somebody thanks him for going above and beyond the call of duty, John always says, “That’s what we do.”

He decided to retire with little fanfare.  But, Nancy Luberoff, who has gotten her mail delivered by John to her house for years, wanted to make sure he put him in the spotlight.

You can nominate your own Hometown Hero.  WCHL has honored local members of our community everyday since 2002.
