This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is you. Because in 2020, you have been a hero.
“Every week, we single out one particular individual as our Hometown Hero and be recognized them for the special work they do to make our community a better place,” says 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck. “But as we all know, 2020 has been a different year. It’s been challenging and it’s been hard and it’s taken all of our collective efforts from each and every one of us to meet those challenges.”
That’s why 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com are honoring you, the hometown citizen, as this week’s Hometown Hero.
“Some of you have gone out of your way and done some very big things this year,” says Keck. “But this is about the little things that all of us have done. The little sacrifices we’re all making to help each other. Every single day, you have put on a mask and stayed six feet apart to help keep other people safe.”
As Election Day approaches, you have already voted in record numbers and you volunteered to help make sure other people can vote as well.
A week away from Election Day, more than 3.4 million ballots have been cast in North Carolina alone . In Orange County, 54 percent of registered voters (more than 60,000 voters) have cast ballots.
“You’ve gotten out of bed and you faced all the challenges this year has brought sometimes successfully, sometimes not successfully,” says Keck. “But we are meeting these challenges together and we will get past them. And when we do, it’ll be because of those little things that we rarely notice that each of us is doing every day. And that’s why you are this week WCHL Hometown Hero.”
