This week’s Hometown Hero is Robert Dowling, longtime director of the Community Home Trust in Chapel Hill.
He is retiring and says it’s time to step aside and leave the job to someone else.
“It was tiny when I took this job in ’97. It was three people, including me,” Dowling said.

However, in that time the role of the Community Home Trust has grown.
“It’s much more complex.” Dowling said. “It’s much bigger even though it’s still small. But what we do is much more impactful than what we were doing when I arrived. And we could not have done any of that without the support of the local governments.”
