This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Dr. Jessica Bishop — who has done a lot of great work for the community, especially in the last year, out of her dental practice on Farrington Road.
“She has been dedicated to her practice and her patients for 20 years,” said Laurie Mann, the office manager for the dental practice.
As with so many people in our community, Dr. Bishop stepped up her efforts to do good work when the pandemic hit last spring. Since the start of the pandemic, Dr. Bishop has raised more than $45,000 making masks — with the proceeds donated to 10 organizations.
“We were out of work for two and a half months, and she is a very busy body and needed something to do,” said Mann. “So she made her time wisely and decided to make masks to raise money for different organizations, including St. Jude, Open Door Ministries, Shriners Hospital to speak of a few.”
Mann said it took Bishop about 30 minutes to sew a mask. Add it up, and that’s a lot of masks to cover $45,000 in donations.
“She is an awesome person, awesome boss, awesome friend. We have an awesome staff — four members have been here for 20 years and I can’t say enough about her. She does a lot for us and patients.”
