This month’s First Watch First Responder, presented by First Watch, The Daytime Cafe at East 54 , is Brianne Vasarhelyi, of the South Orange Rescue Squad!

As an undergraduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill, Brianne knew she wanted to work in healthcare, but was unsure in what capacity. She volunteered at UNC Hospital and shadowed various healthcare workers. She then began volunteering for the South Orange Rescue Squad in 2018 and loved responding to the scene of a raw emergency — a park, restaurant, home, highway, or anywhere she was needed — and provide immediate medical care to people who really need her help.

Brianne spent much of her free time with South Orange either as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), with the Technical Rescue Team, or teaching CPR to community members. She found she was passionate about EMS (Emergency Medical Service), and that’s exactly what she was looking for. It was an easy decision to start working toward her Paramedic certification that she will complete in 2021.

Currently, Brianne serves as Operations Captain of SORS’ EMS Division and works as an EMT in Orange County. She hopes to advance to critical care paramedicine or emergency management. No matter where she goes, she knows that it all started with her South Orange Rescue family, and she couldn’t be happier to help lead a team of such dedicated, passionate, and caring professionals.

First Watch Daytime Cafes in Chapel Hill and Durham proudly salute Brianne Vasarhelyi, as the First Watch First Responder for February.
