When it comes to fall, lighter weight jackets fit the bill and can ease the transition into winter with the addition of layers underneath. Most choose fall colors in shades of brown or gray that can look bland and boring. Although the selection is usually a little more limited, this season I suggest you try to find colors in rich shades of tan or cognac. These jackets are great on a cool evening, thrown over a suit and can even get you through a fall rain shower. Plus, all of these choices match exceptionally well with fall colors.

The Suede Jacket

Instead of a blazer, try a lightweight suede jacket like this suede safari jacket. The lighter tan suede goes perfectly with light beige chinos or dark denim and can be dressed up with a tie and simple white shirt. Depending on your location, this can be worn in fall, in winter over a sweater and into spring. One of the most versatile pieces you can own, a suede jacket dresses your look up a little bit no matter what you are wearing.

The Leather Jacket

Lots of guys have a leather jacket, but few are as cool as one in a rich cognac color. A darker leather jacket in black or brown can be dressed up a little more than this one, but you can also throw on some dark denim and a tie to give this a casual dressed up vibe. This is my favorite jacket, and love to throw it on with a light tan waffle knit henley, a chambray shirt with denim, or even with a tie and chambray shirt. I haven’t seen many new pieces out this season yet that are this color, but will update this article when I find one.

The Classic Raincoat

What’s more classic than the tan raincoat? For a more modern look, find one that’s shorter than knee length. Even though it won’t keep your legs as dry, it does look much better than the older style and can be worn even when it isn’t raining. Another key to making this look work is to pop that collar. This is the perfect coat for a popped collar and actually provides some functionality protecting your neck from the wind. Oh, and grab a cool umbrella, preferably one with a wooden hook handle to complete the stylish look.
