Welcome to “People Caring for People,” a monthly interview series made possible by Piedmont Health. In this series, we hear from health care professionals about the most significant health issues facing our community, and the services available for people who need them.

In this month’s installment, Aaron welcomes integrated behavioral health consultant Rajiv Soni for a conversation about seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Seasonal affective disorder will become a more widespread issue as we enter the winter months, the temperature gets colder, and the days grow shorter. What are the causes of SAD? If you’re affected, what can you do to cope or mitigate the symptoms? Is light therapy useful? How about exercise? (If exercise is effective, what’s the best strategy to get motivated?) And how can we support loved ones who are struggling with SAD or depression? Soni answers all those questions – and discusses the services that are available through Piedmont Health.
