Ven-Allen Lubin, who split the first two seasons of his college career between Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, committed to head coach Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels out of the transfer portal on Thursday. Lubin has two years of eligibility remaining.

As a freshman forward at Notre Dame, Lubin started seven games, appeared in 28 and led the Fighting Irish with 23 blocked shots. He was named to the 2023 ACC-All Academic team before entering the transfer portal.

Lubin then transferred to Vanderbilt to play for UNC basketball alumnus Jerry Stackhouse and the Commodores in the 2023-24 season. Lubin started 26 games and averaged 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds per game, shot 50 percent from the floor and shot 13-39 (33.3 percent) on three-pointers. In addition to being Vanderbilt’s leading rebounder, Lubin once again led his team in blocks with 26.

Lubin – who stands at six-foot-eight – joins a UNC frontcourt featuring returners Jalen Washington and Zayden High, as well as incoming freshman James Brown. He will not have to sit out a year as a multi-time transfer, as the NCAA recently approved immediate eligibility for all transfers regardless of portal history. Lubin is the second transfer to join the Tar Heels this offseason, joining Belmont’s Cade Tyson.
