After averaging 13.5 points per game in two Carolina victories and scoring a career high, freshman Paulina Paris of the UNC women’s basketball team was named the ACC’s Rookie of the Week on Monday. It’s the first time this year Paris has won the honor.

Paris, the only freshman on UNC’s roster, scored five points at Pittsburgh on Thursday before erupting for a career-high 22 against Clemson on Sunday in her first collegiate start. Paris did much of her work from outside, knocking in six three-pointers to help Carolina build a 19-point halftime lead and stave off a comeback attempt in the second half. Paris also tallied a career-high five steals against the Tigers.

Paris is averaging 6.8 points per game this season, but has already reached double figures five times and has played at least 18 minutes in nine of Carolina’s 10 conference games so far. Her 32.1 percent clip on three-pointers is third on the team among players with at least 25 attempts, and her 24 steals are tied for fifth.

Paris and the Tar Heels will be back in action on Thursday when they host Virginia in Chapel Hill at 6 p.m.
