Florida State scored a pair of second-half goals to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat the Tar Heels 3-2 in the ACC Championship in Cary on Sunday afternoon.

UNC struck first on a penalty kick from Kate Faasse in the 31st minute. After the Seminoles tied the match three minutes later, Faasse struck again on a header on the 43rd to give Carolina the lead.

The score stayed 2-1 in favor of UNC until midway through the second half, when Florida State struck for two goals in the span of 4:20 to take the lead. Despite a handful of chances in the final 24 minutes, the Tar Heels couldn’t find an answer.

The 3-2 result secures Florida State’s fifth straight ACC Tournament title. Carolina hasn’t won the ACC Tournament since 2019 and has lost five straight ACC Championship matches to Florida State.

With the loss, Carolina drops to 16-5 overall on the season entering the NCAA Tournament, where the Tar Heels are seeking their 23rd national title.

The complete bracket for the NCAA Tournament will be revealed on Monday at 4 p.m.
