The No. 2 UNC women’s soccer team dominated possession but couldn’t find a breakthrough Thursday night at No. 10 Penn State, instead settling for a 0-0 draw in the regular season opener.

Carolina held a 19-5 overall advantage on shots, though only two of those were on goal. The Nittany Lions managed only five shots, but still forced UNC goalkeeper Emmie Allen into making three saves.

A competitive second half was halted with 9:21 left for a weather delay which lasted approximately 50 minutes. The stoppage did nothing to jump start the Tar Heel offense, which still couldn’t find the back of the net when play resumed. Redshirt sophomore forward Ally Sentnor led the team with five shots.

The draw means UNC’s all-time record in season openers is now 37-5-3. The Tar Heels will be back in action on Sunday, when they’ll return to Dorrance Field to face Cal at 1 p.m. in the home opener.
